A Gaza convoy that departed from Britain on Sept. 18 is expected to arrive in Istanbul on Sept. 27, Anatolia news agency reported Wednesday.
According to a statement released by the Humanitarian Relief Foundation, or İHH, the convoy, carrying medical equipment, medicine and foodstuffs to Palestine, was expected to be in Gaza by mid-October.
The statement said British Parliamentarian George Galloway was heading the convoy, organized by the Viva Palestine Movement.
"There are activists from Britain, the U.S., Ireland, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, France, Italy, Greece, Malaysia, Morocco, Algeria and Jordan in the convoy, in 50 vehicles," the statement said. The convoy will be in Istanbul for four days and leave the city Oct. 1.
Meanwhile, Shabtai Rosenne, an international jurist, diplomat and member of the Israeli commission of inquiry into May's deadly naval raid on a Gaza-bound flotilla, has died, the Associated Press reported. He was 93. The commission, headed by retired Supreme Court Justice Jacob Turkel, was set up to look into the May 31 raid that killed eight pro-Palestinian Turkish activists and one U.S. activist of Turkish descent aboard the flotilla.
