OTTAWA — Neither rain, nor snow, nor sleet, nor hail shall keep the postman from delivering the mail. But tensions in the Gaza Strip will. Canada Post says it can no longer accept outgoing mail destined for the Gaza Strip as there's no guarantee the items will get there. Israel Post has reportedly informed its Canadian counterparts that circumstances in the Gaza Strip "beyond their control" have prompted them to cease mail delivery. Canada Post said it has not been able to find alternate routes to move the mail in the area but has vowed to continue looking. Gaza-bound mail received by Canada Post will be returned to sender. Once service resumes, that mail will be delivered at no additional charge. Customers can receive updates as circumstances change by visiting www.canadapost.com. Somalia is the only other destination that Canada Post does not deliver any mail to. Surface delivery, in which letters and parcels are delivered by sea, is also unavailable in Iraq, Lebanon and East Timor, according to Canada Post.
