(CHICAGO 07/27/2010) – The American Muslims for Palestine wholeheartedly endorses the effort to break Israel’s illegal and inhumane siege on Gaza by sending an American ship, the ‘Audacity of Hope,’ to join an international flotilla this fall. Several organizations have formed a coalition called US Ship to Gaza. The group must raise nearly $400,000 within the next month to purchase a ship that will join the second international Freedom Flotilla in September or October. The flotilla will be comprised of vessels from Europe, Canada, India, South Africa and parts of the Middle East. This siege-breaking effort comes only a few months after Israel’s deadly attack on the first Freedom Flotilla on May 31, 2010. The original flotilla was comprised of nine vessels carrying more than 800 passengers from several countries and more than 10,000 tons of donated humanitarian and medical supplies dedicated to the people of Gaza, who have been living under a total blockade for nearly four years. Israel attacked the flotilla in international waters, killing nine unarmed, humanitarian activists – including one American. According to US To Gaza, “We must raise at least $370,000 in the next month. These funds will be used to purchase a boat large enough for 40-60 people, secure a crew, and cover the licensing and registering of the boat. In addition, the funds will subsidize some other costs of sending a U.S. delegation. We can make this happen together. For example, with 370 people giving $1,000, or with 3,700 people giving $100, we will have raised our full amount.” AMP calls on its supporters to make a tax-exempt donation to this noble effort. Together, we can make a difference. Together, we can break the siege on Gaza To donate, go to www.ustogaza.org. The American Muslims for Palestine is a national, grassroots nonprofit organization, whose mission is to educate the American public about issues pertaining to Palestine and its rich, cultural heritage.
