Please join us for a very informative discussion with Professor Rashid Khalidi and Professor John Mearsheimer on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The event will be moderated by Professor Lisa Wedeen.

Rashid Khalidi is the Edward Said Professor of Arab Studies at Columbia University. He is the author of many books such as Sowing Crisis: American Dominance and the Cold War in the Middle East (2009); The Iron Cage: The Story of the Palestinian Struggle for Statehood (2006); and Palestinian Identity: The Construction of Modern National Consciousness (1996).

John J. Mearsheimer is the R. Wendell Harrison Distinguished Service Professor of Political Science and the co-director of the Program on International Security Policy at the University of Chicago, where he has taught since 1982. He has written extensively about security issues and international politics more generally. He wrote The Israel Lobby and U.S. Foreign Policy (with Stephen M. Walt, 2007), which made the New York Times best seller list and has been translated into seventeen different languages.

Lisa Wedeen is Professor of Political Science at the University of Chicago specializing in comparative politics, the Middle East, political theory, and feminist theory. She has taught courses on nationalism, identity formation, power and resistance, and citizenship. Her work on the Middle East includes Ambiguities of Domination, an ethnographic study of the culture of the spectacle in Syria under Hafez al-Assad.
